September saw Sutton Coldfield Speakers’ Club roar back into life following the summer break.
The theme for our first meeting was ‘Crime and Punishment’ and we heard about everything from pre-meditated murder to pilfering from the office, as well as how to become rich from writing a best-selling thriller.
Two ‘first timers’, Craig Collinge and Tony Taylor, stood up to evaluate the speeches and they did a sterling job in pointing out both the strengths and the areas for improvement, in the speakers’ performances. It was particularly pleasing to see several visitors at this meeting – it gave us a larger audience and our guests chance to see how we operate.
On the last Saturday in September we manned a stall at the Expo in Sutton Coldfield town centre. This gave us the chance to tell people how Sutton Coldfield Speakers’ Club can build confidence in public speaking. Each member of the club receives supportive feedback to help them progress in their speaking career. We take turns at chairing the meeting, speaking and evaluating the speeches of other members. This creates a confidence which not only aids public speaking but also enhances other parts of our lives, both personal and in the workplace.
If you would like to improve your public speaking skills, become more confident or simply take up a new hobby with a friendly bunch of people – please come along and see what we can offer!
